About this Artwork

This artwork is from Minnamari's Mysterious Musings-series of digital collages. If you want to read the story connected to this image, you can find it in Minnamari's online publication, Mysterious Musings. This collage accmpanied the text titled Unrequited, on unrequited love.

I have noticed that many of my more recent collages feature combinations of hands, lights and plants. There is something about this combination that inspires me. For me, the hands symbolize our creative powers, our actions and strivings in the world, while the plants are symbols for growth and for how our own creativity interacts with the creative capabilities of nature and the world at large. Light is that which shines upon it all, it represents a new vantage point, or an expansion of the mind.

In this collage, "The Truth is in Your Hands", the hands holding the pen can be seen as a symbol for how we write our own stories and how our truth is literally in our own hands: our truth is connected to the life we create. But there is a deeper message here as well, as symbolized by the skull-shaped lamp. Are there truths that we cannot escape, universal truths that affect us all? Though I have here presented some of the ideas behind this artwork, my intention is not to prescribe set interpretations, but rather ask questions, or inspire you to ask your own questions. What are things you hold to be true, in your own life?
